Job Description

This entry-level role focuses on the mechanical design and rapid prototyping of custom aerial platforms for our Bengaluru-based lab. You will work closely with our engineering team to translate abstract requirements into functional, aerodynamically sound 3D models using CAD software like Fusion 360. A core part of your day-to-day will involve preparing these designs for manufacturing and operating Bambu Lab 3D printers, with opportunities to work with durable materials such as Carbon Fiber and ASA. Beyond the mechanical structure, you will assist the electronics team by routing PCBs in KiCad and performing precision soldering using lab equipment like digital multimeters and temperature-controlled stations. Ultimately, we are looking for an enthusiastic, highly visual thinker who can digitally simulate assemblies and help physically bring our airborne concepts to life.

Role Overview

Entry-Level Mechanical Prototyping Engineer (Robotics & Aerial Systems). You will support the end-to-end mechanical lifecycle of custom airborne platforms, contributing to CAD modeling, digital assembly, physical 3D printing, basic PCB layout, and final hardware integration.

Required Technical Skills

  • CAD & Modeling: Working knowledge of Fusion 360 (or equivalent like SolidWorks).
  • Manufacturing: Basic understanding of 3D printing operations and slicer software (e.g., Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer).
  • Electronics: Foundational knowledge of PCB layout (KiCad) and basic through-hole/SMD soldering skills.

Must-Have

  • A portfolio showcasing academic or personal hardware projects, demonstrating the ability to design mechanical frames and enclosures.
  • The ability to create basic digital assemblies and visually demonstrate concepts before fabrication.
  • Hands-on exposure to FDM 3D printing and converting 3D designs into print-ready files.
  • Strong spatial reasoning, an abstract thinking mindset, and an eagerness to learn fast.

Good-to-Have

  • Participation in university robotics clubs, aerospace teams, or relevant hackathons.
  • Exposure to printing with engineering-grade filaments (e.g., Carbon Fiber, ASA) and understanding of associated logistics like using active dry boxes.
  • Familiarity with using digital calipers for reverse engineering and verifying tolerances.
  • Basic familiarity with flight controllers and how physical payload distribution impacts aerodynamics.

Responsibilities & Expectations

  • 01.Assist in designing the physical body, frame, and mounting components of aerial platforms.
  • 02.Prepare CAD models for 3D printing and help manage the operation of Bambu Lab equipment.
  • 03.Assemble physical prototypes using precision tools, ensuring they securely house software and electronic payloads.
  • 04.Support electronic design by translating provided circuit schematics into PCB layouts in KiCad, and soldering components.
  • 05.Communicate design concepts and structural layouts visually to the broader team.

Expectations from the Role

  • Maintain a proactive, hands-on approach to the rapid iteration cycle: conceptualize, slice, print, assemble, and refine.
  • Deliver print-optimized hardware that integrates smoothly with pre-existing software and electronic systems.
  • Take feedback constructively and continuously improve mechanical designs for weight, durability, and spatial efficiency.

Education

Recent graduate (B.Tech/B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on project experience).

Selection Process

  • 01.Portfolio Review: Submission of past academic or personal hardware/3D printing projects showcasing the journey from CAD to physical print.
  • 02.Practical Design Task: A short, time-boxed CAD and slicing exercise to evaluate spatial reasoning and DFM principles.
  • 03.Technical Interview: A discussion of your design choices, problem-solving approach, and basic electronics knowledge.
